UCAS Personal Statements

Personal statements are an opportunity to introduce yourself to the reader,
and convey sufficient information that they have a good idea as to what you are like as a person - what makes you 'tick'

You should also assume that the reader of your personal statement is intelligent and a subject expert

You should also not exaggerate or be economical with the truth.   If something is doubtful, don't mention it!

It is reasonable, though, to mention things without going into too much detail,
as this may well then give an interviewer something to ask you questions about
Be prepared to explain, justify, derive things that you mention.

Remember it is YOUR personal statement.

Suggestions for inclusion, but not necessarily in this order.

Who am I?  Introduction
Origin of interest in Physics etc
What are my other interests and hobbies
Why I want to go to this university
Achievements in school and life
Work experience
Responsibilities in school, home and society
What I can offer the university
Aspirations for the future

When completed, read your personal statement aloud as it will help you find errors, typos and nonesense!
Then give it to someone else to do the same - it is difficult to spot your own errors!
